Chairs Through 3 Generations

Being a young family we are always asked if we need this or that piece of furniture before it goes to Goodwill or someplace like that.  Don't get me wrong I LOVE it, but sometimes whatever it may be needs some updating.  In this particular case it is my grandma's table and chairs.  I recently acquired them from my Mother, who also after receiving them recovered them in short order, and now it is my turn to have a go.
This is what they looked like when I got them.

This green was on the chairs since I was a kid. Back in the day it worked, not now though, 15 yrs or so later. :)  My kids have also done a number on them in the short time I have had them, that particular fabric didn't do well with spilled milk from a cereal bowl or mac and cheese all over and under a booster seat.  Anyhow, you can see now exactly why it was time to recover them.

I started with unscrewing the seats from the chairs, and taking out the staples from the previous recover job. As I began to uncover them I got a surprise underneath.

Well, not a total surprise.  I knew it would be some really old fabric.  This fabric was actually used by my grandmother to recover the chairs.  It was pretty neat to see the way she tucked the corners and I even learned something from how she did it, and decided to do it the same way.

So after taking a few minutes to remember my grandma and what a wonderful lady she was, I got to work.  I chose a blue microfiber suede and later I will scotch guard them.

At first things started out a bit rocky but after I switch out to a real staple gun (cough cough, thanks to my in laws, cough) the process really started to pick up.

My hands definitely took a beating from this but I got it done pretty quickly and it was so worth it, but I was glad when it was over...

I love the way they turned out!  I wasn't done yet though, after the kids went to bed I laid everything out to scotch guard.

It was easy, shake the can and spray even coats.  I waited about an hour and did a second coat and let it dry over night.  Then I spent a good amount of time today cleaning the chairs and reattaching the seats.

I couldn't be happier, well I would really like to paint the chairs white and the table bottom and legs white also and refinish and re-stain the top but hey there is only so much you can do before your little girls birthday party, or in one summer for that matter. ;)

It's like the chairs are saying, "Come sit down, I no longer have kids stains and late 80's fabric! I'm new again!  It's okay, sit!"

Mickey Hat

Here again is a scrap page I created for a challenge over at Mouse Scrappers.

Adam trying on a crazy Mickey hat on our honeymoon.

I just love the pixie dust embellishment I got from my first kit challenge, no Disney scrap page is complete with out it I don't think. ;)

Summer Smooch

This past Saturday I was suppose to go to a demonstrator meeting but it was cancelled.  Bummer.  I was still able to get together with my Mother-in-law, Karen (also a demo) and Vicki, another demo.  It took us a while to get the gears moving, or it took Karen and I a while, we were busy chatting.  Vicki got there after I did and was able to get right down to business.  We decided that it was almost lunch time anyway, and took a lunch break.  We went to Joel's in Theresa.  I highly recommend it for the french fries and the chocolate!  Seriously go there!

On to the cards...

This one I was set up to make. ;)  Sometimes I go into stamping with an idea of cards I saw and want to try and replicate.  Well I only had one I wanted to try this time, so I asked Karen and Vicki for a challenge.  Vicki grabbed an image from her stack of inspiration an handed me this.
All of it is Stampin' Up, I especially love the brad in the lower corner.  It's part of the Summer Smooch sale!  Go here and snatch them up!
Summer Smooches Fabric Brads
Aren't those fabric brads delicious?!
I knew you would agree with me!

Another card that was made using the Summer Smooch products was this card by Vicki.

That paper, I love that paper!  You can get it here!

More cards to come....

Creepy Crawly Bug Eyed Adventure

Well, now I'm hooked.  Yesterday I posted a scrapbook page of our honeymoon. How many years ago and I am just getting around to doing something with them?  And now I am a bit obsessed.   If you participate in the challenges over at Mouse Scrappers you can get digital scrapbook freebies and the ladies who create them do such a great job!  They are a great compliment for scrapbooking our memories of Disney.  For this challenge you had to use your freebie in the scrap page, a map of Disney, adorable!  I saved maps and things from Disney for that very same reason, to scrapbook!  Not to say that I won't use them now that I have a digital one, I will.  Believe me, I still have plenty left to use them on. ;)

Under the Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom there is a creepy crawly bug eyed adventure 3-D show, that's what this page is all about!
I zoomed in on the map I received quite a bit to focus on where the 3-D adventure took place.  The map did blur a bit but I think it adds an artsy quality to it. The only thing I didn't like on the map was a dinosaur that was place right by the tree.   I covered it up with a chubby caterpillar and some ribbon and buttons.  The dark part of the background (upper left) was a photo we took of the inside of the tree.  I can't wait for some new challenges!

***The clip art of the bugs from Bugs Life is not at Mouse Scrappers.  I found it at a random other free clip art site through Google.  It is for my personal use only and am not claiming any copy right's to or in any way selling it***

Mouse Scrappers Challenge

If I had my way I would take a trip to Disney every year, I just love it.  When they say it's the happiest place on earth, it's true!  I had went there a few times as a kid (not a little little kid I was in 7th or 8th grade the first time I went) and even as an adult and having been there before, it was still just as magical.  It is larger then life and no matter how old I am I think it will still make me feel like a kid again.  I recently joined the Mouse Scrappers forum and right away enlisted myself in a challenge, here is what I came up with!

This was at MGM which is now Disney's Hollywood Studio's in Florida.

Easter Cupcakes

This last Sunday we hosted Easter at our house.  We all ate too much but it is hard with so much good food.  Especially desserts, key lime pie, french silk pie, jello eggs, sweet bunny bait snack mix and Cadbury Egg cupcakes!

I found this recipe on Pintrest and knew I had to try it.  My frosting was not the same as the one in the recipe but I liked it and everyone else seemed to enjoy it too.  The mini Cadbury cream eggs were the perfect size and having one hidden in the batter, can you say "Amazing"!  Did you know that you should freeze the eggs that you put inside the batter so they don't disappear into the cake when it is baking?  I definitely learned something new!  These might become a new staple at Easter for our family!
