Resurrection Garden

Easter is this weekend and I am having everyone over at our house.  I don't mind taking this holiday because there is not the fuss with gifts or a tree.  The most difficult part is cleaning my house.  Now even though there is no tree to put up I still would like to decorate a little.  I mean we put up a tree and lots of decorations for the birth or our Savior, shouldn't we decorate just as much if not more when he dies for our sins?  Well, really no season is about decoration but this particular project I ran across on Pintrest was the perfect balance between beautiful decor and the meaning of Easter.

You will need a terracotta plate, and small pot.
Some rocks.
Dirt.
Grass seed.
One larger Rock.
And an excited little helper and her gardening tools (optional but highly recommended)!

First we laid down the smaller rocks in the plate on one side. Then we laid down some dirt to hold the small pot in place.  Next, start piling on the dirt around and over your pot.

We did some watering in between layering on the dirt to give it some hold, otherwise the dirt was just falling off the pot.

After you have a nice mound your ready to add some grass seed.  Levi was looking after the seed and keeping it safe for us until we were ready to use it.

Avery and I sprinkled the grass seed all over our mound and after we thought it was covered well, we sprinkled some more dirt over the top, and gave it a good drink of water.

I laid a towel down on the table in our laundry room where I set our garden to grow.  Our garden is right next to a large window that should give it a good amount of sun.

Place a large rock on the edge of the buried pot, it is the door to the tomb. See the tomb is empty, He is risen!  Hopefully our grass will grow at least a little by Easter!

  1. This is so cool! Whether the grass grew or not!! Thanks so much for hosting Easter! We had a great time! (If it had been here it'd be frozen pizza and soda on a one square foot section carved out on the table space. :) Unfortunately....I'm not kidding. :(
